FAQ

Are my photos sent anywhere?
No. All photo analysis happens on your device, and no one, including the developer, receives your photos. The network is used only to purchase or restore Kakushi Pro.

Can it miss things?
Yes. Automatic detection may not find everything. Check the whole photo before you export it, and draw over anything else you want to hide.

What does it find?
Faces, email addresses, long numbers such as membership IDs, QR codes and barcodes, and phone numbers, addresses, postal codes and license plates in Japanese formats. Text in photos is recognized in Japanese and English.

Is location data removed?
By default, exporting removes location, date taken, device model and other metadata. You can choose to keep some of it in the export sheet. Your original photo is never modified.

What is Kakushi Pro?
A one-time In-App Purchase (JPY 800 in Japan) that adds full-size, HEIC and PNG export, and text outline, shadow and all fonts. There is no subscription. There are no ads in the free version either.

I got a new iPhone. How do I get Pro back?
Sign in with the same Apple Account, then tap the gear at the top right of Home > "Kakushi Pro" > "Restore Purchases".

"Save to Photos" doesn't work
In the Settings app, go to Kakushi > Photos and choose "Add Photos Only".

I try to zoom or move the photo, but it draws a mosaic
One finger draws the area to hide. Pinch with two fingers to zoom, and drag with two fingers to move the photo. Use Undo (the left curved arrow near the bottom) to remove anything you drew by mistake.

What is "Hidden Areas"?
A list of everything you hid in the photo, grouped by how it is hidden (Pixelate, Blur or Black Out). Open it with the button at the top right of the editor. Use the eye button to stop hiding an item or hide it again. When there are two or more rows, tap a row to choose where your tracing goes (that row shows "Tracing now adds here"). To hide things differently, such as Blur for faces and Black Out for numbers, use "Draw with Another Style". To delete a row, use its "..." button or swipe left.

Can I use it with VoiceOver?
Yes. You can choose what to hide in the check results list. On the photo, swipe up or down to choose actions such as "Add a rectangle in the center", "Select next shape", "Move up" and "Make larger". The crop frame can be moved the same way.

What happens if I leave the app while editing?
When you switch to another app, your work in progress is kept on your device, and Kakushi reopens it the next time you open the app. It is discarded when you tap Close. Only the photo you have open is kept, so when you are done, use Export to save the photo.

Which devices are supported?
iPhone with iOS 17 or later.
